Announcing the creation the Latin Sheet Music
Education Endowment to empower young student musicians
with the gift of Latin music. Free custom Latin sheet music arrangements
will be donated to non-professional public high school band programs
and not-for-profit music education youth community programs in
the United States.
"As a young musician, I went to
a Miami Florida public school where we did not have Latin sheet
music arrangement available", said Bobby Ramirez, founder
of LatinSheetMusic.com. "As a result, Latin music was a
minimal part of the school's music curriculum. Perhaps because
of this lack of learning material, and my early discovery and
love for all beautiful music and distinct rhythms from every
country in Latin America including Spain, I became passionate
about composing and arranging Latin music while in Jr. high school.
Now, I want to help empower young student musicians by introducing
them to the sounds of Latin music.
"I would not exit as a Latin-American
musician if it were not for the work of musicians like Tito Puente,
Chico O'Farrill, Mario Bauza, Machito, Noro Morales, Jose Fajardo,
Tom Jobim, Wilfredo Vargas, Mongo Santamaria, Santana and countless
other Latino musicians. Whatever the particular style of Latin
music (salsa, Latin Jazz, merengue, etc.) the goal of the Latin
Sheet Music Education Endowment is not only for young student
musicians to play Latin music; but, it is very important to enhence
awareness of those musicians of past generations that were responsible
for creating such Latin music. Even beyond the work of notable
musicians, the entire Latin American diaspora still remains for
the most part, a vast undiscovered rich musical frontier yet
to be explored in the classroom."
